Santo scores decisive goal as TPL champions overcome FA Cup holders to take out King's Trophy at Suphachalasai

Diogo Santo scored the winning goal as Thai Premier League champions Buriram United beat FA Cup holders Bangkok Glass 1-0 in the King’s Trophy match.

In a lively match at Suphachalasai Stadium, both sides had chances before Santo broke the deadlock with his close-range strike after 56 minutes.

Bangkok Galss were the better team in the opening minutes with Lazarus Kaimbi and Chartree Chimtalay squandering a couple of chances.

But Buriram soon found their rhythm and Glass goalkeeper Narit Taweekul was forced to make some fine saves.

In the 56th minute, Santo saw his shot saved by Narit and Gilberto Macena sent the ball back to the goalmouth for Santo to score from close range.

The Glass Rabbits threw everything at the Thunder Castle in the final minutes but could not break their defence.

The match is traditionally the curtain-raiser with the new season beginning the following week.

However, the new season will kick off on Feb 14 as the national side will play in the King’s Cup tournament in Nakhon Ratchasima from Feb 1-7.
