Thailand take aim at title

Thailand are ready to regain the title at the King's Cup which kicks off on Sunday, coach Kiatisak Senamuang said yesterday.

Thai players train at their camp in Khao Yai.

"The players are now 90 percent fit," Kiatisak said. "They are looking forward to the tournament and want to win back the trophy."

Thailand last won the tournament in 2007. They will face South Korea, Honduras and Uzbekistan in this year's edition to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from Feb 1-7.

"The other teams are strong. We must stay focused in every match and try to get as many points as possible," he said.

After a round-robin competition, the team with the highest points will lift the King's Cup.

Thailand are favourites to win the tournament as the other three teams are not their full national sides.

Honduras will field their U20 side and Uzbekistan their U22 team, while South Korea are a mixture of U23 and junior players.

Kiatisak may use a 4-3-3 formation, instead of his usual 4-2-3-1 system, to entertain fans.
