Thailand kick off against Honduras

Kiatisak preaches caution while Adisak will miss tournament after injuring his shoulder in warm-up against Buriram

Nakhon Ratchasima: Striker Adisak Kraisorn has been ruled out for the King’s Cup as Thailand will begin their campaign in the annual tournament against Honduras today.

Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang said yesterday Kiatisak injured his shoulder in the team’s final warm-up game against Buriram United on Thursday.

“He will be out for two weeks,’’ said Kiatisak.

He said midfielders Chanathip Songkrasin or Pinyo Inpinit would start in Adisak’s place and that he would not call up his replacement.

Kiatisak fielded Chanathip as a striker in certain matches at last month’s AFF Suzuki Cup won by his team.

“We now have a squad of 20 players which is enough,” said Kiatisak.

About today’s match against Honduras, Kiatisak said: “We are confident that we will get three points. If we don’t win, then it will be difficult for us in the the next two matches.

“Our players are looking forward to the opening match.”

The other two teams in the tournament are Uzbekistan and South Korea. After a round-robin competition the team with the highest points will lift the King’s Cup on Feb 7.

Honduras are a U20 side while Uzbekistan and South Korea use U22 players.

But Kiatisak said the opponents were still dangerous.

“U20 or U22 players are not much different from full international players,” he said.

Thailand's training session attracts a large number of fans.
