Young sailors shine in Pattaya

A total of 67 young sailors descended on the Royal Varuna Yacht Club for the Admiral’s Cup 2015, a competition regarded as the second-biggest junior event in Thailand, testing the most talented competitors in the Kingdom including those who represented Thailand at the 2014 Asian Games and Optimist World Championships.

The boats were divided into two divisions, Optimist and Laser 4.7, in the two-day event in Pattaya.

In the Optimist on the first day, Suchakree Detthotappol took the line honours in the first race, just ahead of Varuna’s Intira Parnpiboon.

After two days, it was Intira, 13, who won her first national title, with Chanakchon Wangsuk finishing second and Suchakree third.

In the Laser 4.7, three sailors — Alex Frefel, Kim Jung Ho, Chanapai Vijikajee and Arthit Romanyk — were favourites.

In the end, the title went to Frefel with Arthit Romanyk and Kim coming in second and third respectively.
