Thailand go down to China at Fed Cup

Thailand were beaten by hosts China 2-1 in their second match at the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in Guangzhou yesterday.

Defending champions Thailand beat Taiwan in their opening match on Wednesday and will today meet Kazakhstan in their last Group B game of the two-group tournament.

In yesterday's action, world No.493 Peangtarn Plipuech lost 6-0, 6-1 to Asian Games champion Wang Qian and No.247 Tamarine Tanasugarn was defeated by No.80 Zheng Saisai 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 in the singles.

In the meaningless doubles match, Luksika Kumkhum and Nicha Lertpitaksinchai beat Wang and Zheng 6-2, 7-6 (7/3).

"It was a pity that I failed to get a point," said Tamarine.
