Why many of us play golf is for health reasons, and my tip this week is to contemplate the benefits to your body of actually trying to hit that little white ball. We all know that a regular walk is good for us but did you know golfers live five years longer?

Perhaps those within the golf industry should be advertising this a little more, as the game of golf has amazing mental and physical benefits — a fact known to everyone who plays, or is in the industry. The health benefits of playing golf should be shouted from the highest mountain.

Recently I meet an old student who I hadn't seen for some 20 years, he was grayer but physically looking extremely sprightly for his age and attributed this to playing a couple of games a week.

People who play golf live longer, healthier lives. Five years longer on average, according to a recent study the Karolinska Institute.

Out of Bounds: A sobering thought for golfers is that nerve cells are born and die, but unfortunately fat cells live forever!
