Thai teams begin AFC bids

Thai Premier League runners-up Chonburi and FA Cup winners Bangkok Glass will today begin their AFC Champions League qualifying campaigns.

Chonburi will host Hong Kong's Kitchee while Bangkok Glass will be at home to Malaysia's Johor Darul Ta'Zim.

The winners of the one-off matches will advance to the third and final qualifying round.

TPL champions Buriram United are the only Thai side to have already earned a berth in the group stage of the continental championship.

"They have a good short-passing game. They also have several good foreign players,'' Chonburi coach Jadet Meelarp said.

He said his squad had been able to train together only one day before the match because several players had played for Thailand in the King's Cup which ended on Saturday.

"We must play carefully in this match because it is a one-off game. But I think we should win in 90 minutes,'' Jadet said.

Chonburi captain Pipob On-mo said: "I scored against them many years ago but they are now a new team. We are looking forward to the match and hope we can beat them."

Meanwhile, Bangkok Glass coach Ricardo Rodriguez said his team was well-prepared for the match.

"We hope to get a good result to make our fans happy,'' he said.

Johor coach Bojan Hodak admitted that Leo Stadium's artificial pitch could affect his men.
