Injured Chappuis set to miss SEA Games

Charyl Chappuis is likely to miss the SEA Games in Singapore in June after Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang confirmed the midfielder’s knee injury will keep him out of action for two or three months.

Thai-Swiss midfielder Chappuis has suffered the injury since the AFF Suzuki Cup in December last year. The injury was worse than earlier expected and Chappuis has reportedly been told he might need a surgery.

“I met with Chappuis during the match between Osotspa and Suphanburi in the Thailand Premier League at the weekend. He will be out for two or three months which means he will likely miss the SEA Games,” said Kiatisak.

“But I told him that the national team is still open for him. He only needs to get back to full fitness.

"The most important thing is to get fit and perform well for his club Suphanburi FC in the Thai Premier League. That will help him get back into the national team.”

Kiatisak, 41, also said four more players will be called up to the U22 national team in preparation for the Asian Championship, the first round of Olympic qualifying.

Thai U22 team manager Somsak Sirithum already listed 46 players and four more players will be added to the pre-Olympic squad for registration with AFC next week, added Kiatisak.

Meanwhile Si Sa Ket FC kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win against BEC Tero Sasana in the only Thai Premier League game last night.
