Onnarin storms to a five-stroke victory in Korat

Onnarin Sattayabanphot surged to a five-stroke victory at the second leg of the Singha-SAT Thai LPGA Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday.

Onnarin Sattayabanphot, left, and amateur Benyapa Niphatsophon.

Entering the final round with five strokes ahead of the chasing pack, Onnarin made a four-under-par 68 to win on 201 at Rancho Charnvee Resort and Country Club.

Amateur Benyapa Niphatsophon, who was a member of the Thai team that won gold at the Asian Games last year, finished second after shooting a 66 for 206.

Nontaya Srisawang carded a 67 to finish third on 208 while first-round leader Pinrath Loomboonruang (70) was fourth on 209.

The 31-year-old Onnarin said that she made a lot of mistakes on the front nine but bounced back on the back nine with four birdies in the last seven holes.

“It is good to start the season with a win,’’ said Onnarin, who took home 120,000 baht.

The third leg of the Singha-SAT Thai LPGA Championship will be held at Kabinburi Sports Club in Prachin Buri from March 11-13.
