Buriram face Guangzhou in ACL today

Buriram United take on Guangzhou R&F today knowing that a win against the Chinese side will lift them to the top of Group F in the AFC Champions League.

The match at Yuexiu Stadium in Guangzhou kicks off at 6.30pm Thai time.

Gilberto Macena

Prakit Deeprom and Gilberto Macedo struck inside the opening 18 minutes to give Alexandre Gama's side a 2-1 win over Seongnam of South Korea last week as Buriram set their sights on surpassing their previous best performance in the continental club championship — a quarter-final appearance in 2013.

The Thunder Castle will, however, not take Guangzhou lightly after the Chinese side recorded an impressive 2-0 away win at reigning J-League champions Gamba Osaka in their opening fixture.

"We are pleased that the weather in Guangzhou is not very cold — it is about 18 degrees Celsius. We are looking forward to getting at least a point,'' said Buriram chairman Newin Chidchob.

Buriram are at full strength without any injury worries.

Brazilian striker Macena, who is on loan from China's Hangzhou Greentown, said: "I have scored against Guangzhou and I hope I score against them again."

R&F coach Cosmin Contra said: "We know that Buriram United is a strong team but we will still play defensively because they have good speed. If we win this match, we will have a good chance to qualify for the next round."
