Macena inspires Buriram comeback in Guangzhou

Thai Premier League champions Buriram United came from behind to stun Guangzhou R&F 2-1 with a last-gasp goal to top Group F of the AFC Champions League last night.

Buriram's Gilberto Macena, centre, scores the winner against Guangzhou R&F.

In the other Group F match, South Korea's Seongnam beat Japan's Gamba Osaka 2-0.

After two games, Buriram have six points, Guangzhou and Seongnam three each, and Gamba zero.

At Guangzhou, Lu Lin opened the scoring for the hosts after 26 minutes only for South Korean Ko Seul-Ki to equalise just before half-time.

Coached by former Romania international Cosmin Contra, Guangzhou dominated for long periods in the second half.

But after they squandered several chances, the Chinese were punished in the dying moments by Gilberto Macena's bicycle kick.

Brazilian Macena is on loan from Chinese side Hangzhou Greentown.

The Thunder Castle, who were eliminated in the group stage last year, aim to reach the quarter-finals this term.

Buriram will next meet Gamba in Osaka on March 18.

At Seongnam, South Korean FA Cup winners Seongnam, who lost to Buriram in their opening game, claimed their first win of the 2015 AFC Champions League.

Ricardo Bueno's early spot kick and Hwang Ui-jo's second half strike earned a 2-0 win over Gamba.
