Muang Thong host Port in TPL tonight

Security beefed up at SCG Stadium for fear of clashes, surprise package Suphanburi face champions Buriram United

SCG Muang Thong United hope to regain form when they host Port in the Thai Premier League tonight.

SCG Muang Thong United, red, drew with Bangkok Glass in their previous match.

The match has been moved from tomorrow when there will be a concert by a Korean pop singer at a nearby gymnasium.

Security at SCG Stadium will be beefed up to prevent possible clashes between fans.

Last year, there was a mass brawl outside the stadium after Muang Thong beat Port. Both clubs were deducted nine points for the incident.

Port CEO Nuanphan Lamsam yesterday said she had talked to all concerned parties and believed the match would be peaceful.

On the pitch, Muang Thong and Port have got off to slow starts to the season.

In their first three games of the campaign, Muang Thong won at newcomers Nakhon Ratchasima but could only draw with champions Buriram and title contenders Bangkok Glass.

Muang Thong manager Karn Jantarat said his team was at full strength with only midfielder Mario Grurovski needing a late fitness test.

“Playing against Port is always tough. But we will be playing at home so we have to win after two draws,” he said.

Port coach Somchai Chuayboonchum said he had guided Navy to beat Muang Thong at SCG Stadium and hoped he could do it again as Port coach.

“We hope to get at least one point,” he said.

Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawornsiri, chairman of the TPL security committee, said more than 500 policemen would be at the stadium.

“We want football stadiums to be safe places where people can enjoy matches,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, surprise leaders Suphanburi will host Buriram United today.

Suphanburi have seven points from three games while Buriram have played only two matches because of their assignment in the AFC Champions League.

Suphanburi will be without former Buriram midfielder Charyl Chappuis who is nursing a knee injury.

However, Suphanburi’s attack will be led by Carmelo Gonzalez, who moved from Buriram after helping the Thunder Castle win the title last season.
