Pattaya: Ten teams took part in the 2015 Matchrace Thailand Championship at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) earlier this month.

Sailors from Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Estonia, Finland, Poland and Bahrain competed in the matchraces as spectators watched the Platu 25 class yachts in action.

After a round-robin series over the first two days, former champion Morten Jakobsen from the RVYC led the competition by winning eight of the matchraces.

In the semi-finals, Jakobsen sailed against Bahrain’s Ebrahim Adbdulla, and despite a spirited effort from the RVYC team, the Bahrain team was through to the final four.

In the third-place play-off, Ebrahim and Finland’s Staffan had equal results, and Staffan managed to secure the third place in the deciding race.

In the final, Mati of Estonia sailed against Maximillian of Singapore.

The Singapore team had a problem with the spinnaker hoist at the top mark resulting in the Estonian team taking the title.
