Suphanburi edge Kirins to top league

Jakkraphan and van Dijk score in 2-1 victory

Suphanburi moved to the top of the Thai Premier League table after beating Muang Thong United 2-1 last night.

Suphanburi have 14 points, one ahead of Army United and Bangkok Glass who both will play today.

At Suphanburi Stadium, Muang Thong were the better side in the first half but could not beat in-form goalkeeper Anurak Chompoopruek who made several fine saves.

The hosts regrouped in the second half and former Muang Thong player Jakkraphan Pornsai gave them the lead after 54 minutes.

Indonesia international Sergio van Dijk made it 2-0 a few minutes later after a blunder by Muang Thong defender Naoaki Aoyama.

Mario Gjurovski cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 70th minute.

The Kirins threw everything at Suphanburi but failed to get an equaliser as they suffered their first defeat of the season.

At Navy Stadium, Navy secured their first win of the season after defeating fellow newcomers Saraburi 2-0 with Anggello Machuca scoring both goals.

At Si Sa Ket Stadium, Phaiboon Lertvimolrat got off to a losing start as coach of Port who lost 2-1.

Si Sa Ket raced to a 2-0 lead with goals from Kittipong Wongma (31) and Luben Nikolov (66) and Ratchanon Srinok got a consolation for the visitors in the dying moments.
