Kent produces impressive show at Hua Hin Sixes

Hua Hin: The Bangkok Post-Hua Hin Cricket Sixes saw some scintillating play on the first day yesterday.

Taking advantage of the new pitch at the Dusit Thani Resort, it was that batsmen made an impact from the beginning, leaving the bowlers ducking for cover.

The most impressive performances were in the Cup games, where Melbourne took on a strong Kew team twice and came away with convincing wins.

Andrew Kent was man of the match in both contests reaching the mandatory 35-run target in each game while bowling and fielding effectively.

His total of six sixes and seven fours in the games made him a stand out.

In the Masters competition, the Melbourne club also stood out.

Strong batting performances from Stuart Milliken and by Bruce Anderson (retired on 38 not out) saw them home on both occasions.

Cluden Masters, in their only game, romped home and also looked dangerous.

Sam Lielups, making his Hua Hin debut, retired on 37 and bowled tightly for Cluden. Debuting team, the Purple Helmets,  batted strongly and showed promise.
Gold Coast Tigers, keeping up their tradition of strong starts in the tournament, easily won their two opening contests in the Veterans Division.

Captain Derek Delany again shone with bat and ball, scoring 36 for the day without an out to his name.

Today’s action begins at 8am and concludes at 6pm. The tournament ends on April 9.
