Fofana pens new deal at Clermont

PARIS - France international back Wesley Fofana on Thursday signed a new deal until 2019 with Clermont, the French top 14 side announced.

Clermont's French centre Wesley Fofana (R) rides the ball before a try during a match against Northampton on April 4, 2015 in Clermont-Ferrand, France

"This extension was one of my priorities and I'm delighted to be able to build around a player like him," declared Clermont manager Franck Azema.

He added: "For the club this sends out a strong message of continuity and of what we are looking for on the pitch, and also for the ambitions that we have and will have in the years to come."

The Paris-born 27-year-old operates at centre or wing. He made his international debut in 2012 and has been at Clermont since 2008, helping the side win the French championship in 2010.

He was injured in France's 20-13 defeat against Wales in early March, his 33rd cap, and missed the remaining Six Nations games against Italy and England.

Clermont host English side Saracens in the European Rugby Champions Cup semi-final on Saturday.
