Thai boy wins drive contest at Augusta National

Thailand’s George Duangmanee won a title at the National Finals of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition at Augusta earlier this month.

George, who resides in Fairfax, Virginia, finished first in the boys 12-13 division.

The Drive, Chip and Putt is organised by the PGA of America, the United States Golf Association and the Masters tournament.

Over 150,000 kids took part in this year’s qualifying throughout the US, and only 80 winners in four age divisions earned a trip to Augusta National, home of the Masters, to participate in the the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals.

Son of former tennis Player Thanakorn Duangmanee, George, 13, showed his skills when he drove the ball 250.8 yards on his initial attempt and 260.7 on his second, giving him nine points in that discipline.

After his victory, George was greeted by Augusta National member Condoleezza Rice and Masters champions Adam Scott and Gary Player.
