Newin rubbishes claim

Chairman Newin Chidchob has denied reports that his Buriram United used public funds.

Buriram United players train yesterday.

Isara News Agency claimed Buriram received financial support from the Buri Ram Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) to take their fans to away matches on 16 occasions.

Newin yesterday held a press conference in South Korea to hit back at the news organisation.

"We have never received money from the Buri Ram PAO or the provincial sports association,'' Newin said.

"We can stand on our own feet. Our main income is from gate receipts and sponsors. You can check our records at the Revenue Department."

Newin and his team are in South Korea ahead of tomorrow's match against Seongman in the AFC Champions League.

Buriram lead Group F and victory for the Thai Premier League champions in Seongnam would see them progress, while a draw in the other match between Guangzhou R&F and Gamba Osak would also see Alexandre Gama's side top the group.

Two-time continental champions Seongnam of South Korea can secure a return to the knockout stage for the first time since 2012 by downing Buriram by two goals or more.

Kim Hak-bum's Seongnam, who lost 2-1 in Thailand at the start of the campaign, would also win the group should Guangzhou R&F and Gamba draw.
