Overnight batsmen Marlon Samuels (97) and captain Denesh Ramdin (24) remained watchful in 40 minutes of play before the showers arrived, adding 22 runs.

Samuels was particularly cautious, adding just three to his score from the first evening in pursuit of a seventh Test hundred in his 100th innings at this level of the game.
