Suphan looking to remain top of TPL

Second-placed Army hope to get back on track after shock 3-1 loss to Ostospa as they visit Nakhon Ratchasima today

Surprise package Suphanburi are likely to remain leaders of the Thai Premier League when they host Si Sa Ket today.

Suphanburi, blue, beat Muang Thong United in their previous match.

Suphanburi, who are one point ahead of Army United and Bangkok Glass, are strong at home with two wins and one draw this season.

They beat former champions Muang Thong United and drew with holders Buriram United in their two previous matches in front of their fans.

Although they are still without Thai-Swiss midfielder Charyl Chappuis who is injured, they welcome back striker Carmelo Gonzalez who is likely to partner Indonesia forward Sergio van Dijk.

Si Sa Ket are strong at home but poor travellers. They have won all three home games and lost all three away matches this season.

Also today, second-placed Army United, coached by former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Stevens, will be trying to bounce back from their shock 3-1 home loss to Ostospa in their last match.

However, they face a tricky away match at newcomers Nakhon Ratchasima who play well at home.

Tomorrow, Buriram will also be trying to regain their confidence after a 2-1 loss at South Korea’s Seongnam in the AFC Champions League in midweek.

The Thunder Castle, who are two points off the pace, should have few problems against promoted club Navy.

Bangkok Glass are at home to injury-hit Chonburi.

“We are confident that we will win in front of our fans. We are at full strength and will play on our artificial turf,’’ said Glass assistant coach Apisit Eimumpai.

Chonburi media director Jeerasak Chomthong said with several injured players including goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool and striker Thiago Cunha, the Sharks would be happy with one point.

Meanwhile, the Thai national team will play a warm-up match with Bahrain on June 5 as part of their preparation for the 2018 World Cup qualifying round, coach Kiatisak Senamuang said yesterday.

Thailand are in Group F with Iraq, Vietnam, Indonesia and Taiwan.
