Thailand Tigers to play Fighting Cocks today

The Thailand Tigers Australian [Rules] Football Club will play the Myanmar Fighting Cocks in the 12th annual Anzac commemorative match in Kanchanaburi today.

Action in last year’s match.

The match at Visut High School, which kicks off at 1.30pm, promises to be a fitting and hard-fought contest.

The Anzac weekend is always the biggest event on the Tigers’ calendar. As well as several new recruits, ex-Tigers from Hong Kong and Australia will take part in the match to honour the Anzac spirit.

The game is expected to be a physically testing encounter, with both teams aiming to build momentum for the Indochina tournament later in the year.

Myanmar have already beaten the Cambodia Eagles this year, while the Tigers will be looking to maintain their record over the newer club, after beating them in Myanmar last year.

Tigers coach Patrick Fitzgerald said: “It’s always a special privilege being able to play an Anzac match in a place with so much history, and in front of people who were part of that history.”

This year will also see a junior Auskick clinic and game before the main match. Children up to 17 years of age are welcome to try Australian rules football for free.

Entry is free and all are welcome.
