The match was originally scheduled for June 11 at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium but the date clashed with the SEA Games in Singapore so both sides asked concerned parties for a new date.

The new date has been approved by Fifa which published it on its website.

"The match will be played on May 24,'' Worawi Makudi, president of the Football Association of Thailand, said yesterday.

The two teams are in Group F along with Iraq, Taiwan and Indonesia.

Thailand, coached by Kiatisak Senamuang, will visit Taiwan on June 16 and their remaining games are against Iraq (home) on Sept 8, Indonesia (away) on Oct 8, Vietnam (away) on Oct 13, Taiwan (home) on Nov 12, Iraq (away) on March 24 and Indonesia (home) on March 29.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up advance to Asia's final qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup, and also qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup.

Meanwhile, the Thai U23 team will begin the defence of the SEA Games title against Laos on May 29.

The other teams in Group B are Vietnam, Malaysia, Timor Leste and Brunei.

The top two teams of each of the two groups advance to the semi-finals.

Thailand's remaining matches are against Timor Leste on June 1, Malaysia on June 4, Brunei on June 6, and Vietnam on June 10.

Kiatisak is also coach of the U23 side.
