MMA event Full Metal Dojo 5 is on today

Thailand has no shortages of combat athletes and tonight several Thai fighters will put their skills to the test at the ‘Full Metal Dojo 5 Made in Thailand’ mixed martial arts (MMA) event at Live House Studio in JJ Green (Chatuchak Park).

Many of the country’s top MMA prospects will compete in three separate four-man amateur tournaments in one night.

The tournaments will take place within the bantamweight (61.2kg), featherweight (65.5kg) and lightweight (70kg) divisions with big prize money on the line.

The contenders, who come from several regions across Thailand, include former professional Muay Thai fighters and MMA amateurs.

Two highly-anticipated superfights will also take place, including a strawweight (52kg) bout between Chiang Mai’s Pongsiri ‘The Smiling Assassin’ Mitsatit (3-0) and debutant Nattapong ‘Shazam’ Limpwattanachai.

Pongsiri, a skilled Muay Thai fighter, won the North Thailand Championship in December just weeks after winning his third straight MMA bout at FMD 4 in Bangkok.

One of the most talked about fights of the entire show is the bout between FMD founder and cage announcer, Jon Nutt (0-1), and FMD referee Dana Blouin (2-1) in what is being billed as the ‘Battle of the Beards’.

Both men have hit the social media networks hard with trash-talking banter going back-and-forth in recent months.

Doors open at 4pm and tickets are available at Thai Ticket Major, call 02-262-3456 or visit thaiticketmajor.com.
