Kirins hoping for better luck

Muang Thong host Army tomorrow in bid to get title challenge firing on all cylinders again

Second-placed Muang Thong United will be keen to arrest their slump when they host Army United in the Thai Premier League tomorrow.

Buriram forward Diogo Santo, right, has been in top form.

The Kirins have suffered two consecutive setbacks in the past week — losing 2-1 at Chonburi in the TPL last Sunday before suffering a 2-0 defeat at Police United in the League Cup last-32 round in midweek.

Muang Thong, who are four points behind leaders Buriram United, will be without Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda, who has to play for the Air Force in the Armed Forces Games.

Brazilian forward Cleton Silva is also suspended while goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan needs a late fitness test.

“Our players are exhausted after playing several games in a row,’’ said Muang Thong assistant coach Pol Chomchuen.

But he believes his team is good enough to secure the three points and stop the rot.

Army held Buriram to a goalless draw in their last away match and manager Chartree Sangthongsrikamol said Army were hoping to get at least a point at SCG Stadium.

League Cup holders BEC Tero Sasana, who have yet to live up to expectations and are currently 12th in the TPL, face another tough assignment at high-flying Bangkok Glass today.

Kenny Shiels of Northern Ireland is still looking for his first win as coach of BEC and the Fire Dragons would need a fine performance to avoid defeat at Bangkok Glass.

Shiels will be without midfielder Chanathip ‘Messi Jay’ Songkrasin who has been ruled out for two months due to injury.

The Glass Rabbits are strong at home, thanks in part to their artificial pitch.

Boosted by two consecutive wins, against Ratchaburi in the TPL and Angthong in the League Cup, Buriram should have few problems when they host Osotspa today.

Their strike force will be led by Brazilian Diogo Santo who has scored braces against both Ratchaburi and Angthong.

Chonburi, who beat Muang Thong 2-1 last week, will be without Suttinun Phukhom and Thiago Cunha when they meet Navy today.
