Supamas Saengchan took home her maiden professional title at the sixth leg of the Thai LPGA Tour in Hua Hin yesterday.

Supamas Saengchan celebrates with the trophy.

The former national team player beat amateur and overnight leader Parinda Phokan with a birdie in the first play-off hole after they finished on 208 at Black Mountain Golf Club.

Kanphanitna Muangkhumsakul was a stroke behind in third place while Wanchana Poruangrong made a final round 67 to finish fourth on 210.

Kusuma Meechai came in fifth on 211 along with with Pinrath Loomboonruang.

Three strokes behind the leader after two rounds, the 19-year-old Supamas was firing on all cylinders as she birdied twice for a 34 at the turn before taking another two birdies at the 11th and 12th holes. A 15th hole bogey forced her into a play-off with Thailand national player Parinda, who got a final-hole birdie.

Sukhothai-born Supamas was over the moon at winning her first professional title after turning pro eight months ago.

“I am really happy with my first win as a pro,” said the champion who received the winner’s cheque of 114,000 baht.

“It’s all the more special because I was caddied by my father for the first time here.”

“It is definitely a big boost for me in trying to qualify for the LPGA Tour this year.”

Supamas was a member of the gold medal-winning team at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. It was Thailand’s first-ever gold medal in the sport at the quadrennial tournament.

The seventh leg of the Thai LPGA Tour will be held at Singha Park Khon Kaen from July 29-31.
