The capricious nature of the Thai League League was highlighted once again as defending champions Buriram United reclaimed sole ownership of the top spot and giants Muang Thong United slipped to second place after an unexpected draw.

Buriram were tipped to beat relegation-threatened Saraburi and they did not disappoint, scoring a 2-1 away win.

However, BEC Tero Sasana coach Kenny Shiels dream of carding his first win in the league was shattered at the last moment as former champions Muang Thong United salvaged a 1-1 tie.

The day began with both Buriram and Muang Thong tied in the top spot, and the draw against struggling BEC Tero was a never a comforting thought for the Kirins.

The result not only did a major favour to Buriram by giving them the lead in the title race with 36 points from 16 match, it also dealt a big blow to Muang Thong's buoying confidence as they returned to second place with 34 points.

At Chalermprakiat 72nd Anniversary Stadium, the Fire Dragons silenced the Muang Thong fans when Peerapat Notechaiya put them 1-0 ahead in the 22nd minute.

However, after capturing the lead, the BEC Tero midfield could not keep the possession of the ball and allowed Muang Thong players to launch attacks.

Teerasil Dangda had a great opportunity to level but but his shot was warded off by a BEC Tero defender early in the second half.

In the 71st minute, Adisak Kraisorn could have added to BEC Tero's tally but his attempt was cleared by Kawin Thamsatchanan.

The BEC Tero mostly relied on counter-attacking and one of such forays saw Gilbert Koomson strike the ball a bit shy of the goal-mouth.

The Kirins, Muang Thong tried relentlessly to equalise and were finally able to pierce through the strong BEC Tero defence wall in the injury time a Kasidech Vechayawong half-volley found the net.

Buriram United regained form by defeating the Saraburi 2-1 yesterday at Saraburi Stadium.

Buriram were having a below par run in the league after being held to two draws in a row and had rested their hopes of regaining confidence with a victory over Saraburi.

The defending champions were impressive on the field and their efforts paid off when Jakkraphan Kaewprom scored the first goal for them in the 38th minute.

Before the home team could have recovered, Buriram fired home again through their Brazilian striker Diogo Luis Santo two minutes later.

In the second half, Buriram remained in control of the game and Santo had a chance double his goal harvest from the match but his shot from a close range missed the target by a whisker.

The game became exciting when Saraburi staged a late crusade and Dai Min Joo saw his shot at goal denied by Buriram goalkeeper Sivarak Tedsungnern.

In the 86th minute, Saraburi got their only goal from Wasin Thongsong but the success came a bit too late in the match to spark any meaningful recovery.

At Khao Plong stadium, the Chainat FC picked up three points in front of their home crowd as they defeated the Port FC 1-0. Wesley Alex scored the winning goal for Chainat.

At His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday Anniversary Stadium, hosts Nakhon Ratchasima lost 2-1 to Bangkok United.

Sompong Soleb put the visiting team 1-0 ahead lead before Nakhon Ratchasima's Bjorn Lindemann equalised in the 53rd minute.

However, Leandro Martins scored the winning goal for Bangkok United to ensure his team left the venue with three points in their pockets.
