Sharks aiming to take a bite out of Buriram's lead

In-form Chonburi hope to continue their winning run by beating leaders Buriram United in the Thai Premier League today.

Chonburi defender Anderson dos Santos, left, in action against BEC.

After tonight's round of matches, the TPL will take a break to allow the national team to prepare for its World Cup qualifier against Iraq in Bangkok on Sept 8.

Following a slow start to the season, Chonburi have now won six consecutive league matches and are now just five points behind champions Buriram.

At the weekend, the Sharks came from behind to win 2-1 at ailing giants BEC Tero Sasana.

Chonburi media manager Jeerasak Chomthong said: "Our players are looking forward to the match, as it will prove if we are good enough to be a genuine contender."

The Sharks, runners-up to Buriram last season, welcome back Nurul Sriyankem from injury.

Buriram official Surapong Sawasdee said: "If we beat them, our defence of the title should become much easier.

"Their come-from-behind win against BEC proves they are a strong team but we will try to beat them."

In the evening's other big clash, second-placed Muang Thong United have a tricky assignment at Si Sa Ket who are strong at home.

Meanwhile at the other end of the table, BEC Tero, who have not won in the league for months, have a chance to stop the rot when they travel to second-bottom Navy.
