Pre-tournament favourite Kiradech Aphibarnrat posted a final round 68 for a three-stroke victory at the inaugural Thongchai Jaidee Foundation tournament in Hua Hin yesterday.

Holding a four-shot lead after three rounds, the world No.68 lived up to his top billing by carding five birdies and one bogey to grab the title with 24-under 264.

Hua Hin-born Prayad Marksaeng, who has five titles under his belt this year, was second on 267 after he closed with a 67 at the par-72 Black Mountain Golf Club.

Prom Meesawat, also a Hua Hin native, posted a 68 to settle for third alongside American Berry Henson on 269.

Three strokes further away at joint fifth were tournament host Thongchai Jaidee (67), who shot five birdies, and Chapchai Nirat (66).

Holding a massive four-stroke advantage going into the final round, Kiradech was never challenged. He reached the turn with 34 to lead Prayad by three strokes on 22 under and made three more birdies and one bogey in the back nine where Prayad picked up two birdies.

Kiradech, who took home 700,000 baht, said Prayad had concerned him only a bit as his nearest rival played well but only to miss some putts.

"I am happy to win the inaugural event," he said. "Big thanks to Thongchai for hosting the tournament for the young generations.

"It is a stage for them to learn and develop before moving to bigger stages."

Former Thailand national players Kasidit Lepkurte (66) and professional debutant Natipong Srithong (67), who were in the gold-winning squad at the SEA Games in June this year, were tied for 15th on 277 and received 49,066 baht each.

Kasidit, who was playing in his fourth professional event, appeared more confident and hoped to carry on the in same vein for the rest of the year.

"I am happy to be in good form after winning in Chiang Mai two weeks ago," said the golfer, who has made the cut in all four professional tournaments he has played so far. "It is a good start to my professional career."

Kasidit also praised Thongchai, who is a former president of the Professional Golf Association of Thailand, for his contribution to develop the sport in the country.

"The organisation meets the international standards and I hope Thongchai can get this event held every year."

The next All Thailand Golf Tour event will be held at Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club on Oct  26-Nov 1.
