Nuanphan Lamsam holds a press conference on Wednesday to announce her retirement as manager of the Women's national football team after their run to the 2016 Olympics ended on Tuesday.

Nuanphan Lamsam has called it quits on managing the women's national football team one day after their run for a 2016 Olympics spot in Brazil came to an end.

Nuanphan announced the decision on Wednesday after returning from Myanmar with the team which suffered a shocking exit at the hands of Vietnam in the last match, with the winner moving into the third round of the Fifa Olympics Qualification round.

"I have been the team manager for six years and used a budget of nearly 100 million baht to make the team,'' she told a press conference.

"I also have health problems and I have to take responsibility for the team after they lost to Vietnam 2-0. I did not have any conflicts with the FAT at all and I have already informed FAT chief Worawi Makudi about my retirement," she added.

Nuanphan said she still was behind the Thai national team and players. She continues her executive job as head of Port FC, a Thai Premier League team.

Earlier, the Thai women's team head coach Nuengruethai Srathongwieng also retired.
