Catrakilis begins training with Montpellier

MONTPELLIER (FRANCE) - South African fly-half Demetri Catrakilis took part in training for the first time with Top 14 side Montpellier under the direction of compatriot and coach Jake White on Monday.

Demetri Catrakilis, pictured in action on March 8, 2014, signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth at Montpellier

The 26-year-old, released by Western Province before the conclusion of the Currie Cup, signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth at Montpellier where he will be competing with France international François Trinh-Duc, Australian Ben Lucas and promising French youngster Ilian Perraux.

Fijian internationals Timoci Nagusa and Akapusi Qera returned from World Cup duty after their team was eliminated in the pool stage and also took part in training ahead of Friday's Top 14 game at Grenoble.

Georgian international prop Misha Nariashvili also joined his teammates but is uncertain for this week's game after picking up an ankle injury in Georgia's final World Cup game against Namibia.

Scrum-half Benoît Paillaugue meanwhile confirmed he is set to extend his contract, which expires next June, for a further two years.

"I'm happy to have the confidence of the the president and the coach," he said. "Even if I've had contacts (with other clubs) my first desire was to stay."

Paillaugue, 27, has played with the southern outfit since January 2009.

Montpellier are second in the Top 14 table, three points behind leaders Clermont.
