Satun in trouble, Buriram chase TPL title

Satun United said yesterday they were ready to accept punishment after their fans beat up the referee following a match at the weekend.

Hosts Satun lost 1-0 to Khon Kaen United in a regional league (League Two) match.

About 200 home fans were upset by referee Pichit Thongchanmoon and attacked him after the match.

"We will take responsibility and accept any punishment,'' Satun chairman Samrit Liangprasit said.

He dismissed reports that the club intentionally allowed the supporters to attack the match officials.

However, Satun manager Pongsapat Tingnui insisted linesman Karin Soisangwan said that a 'senior person' had asked the match officials to officiate in favour of Khon Kaen.

Karin initially made the claim but later said he was forced to do so by the home team.

Meanwhile, leaders Buriram United are confident that they will beat Nakhon Ratchasima today to move one step closer to retaining the Thai Premier League title.

The Thunder Castle are in a confident mood after beating Si Sa Ket in the League Cup final on Saturday.

If Buriram beat their northeastern rivals today, they will move 10 points clear of second-placed SCG Muang Thong United with only four matches remaining.

Newcomers Nakhon Ratchasima held Buriram to a 2-2 draw earlier in the season, but Thunder Castle coach Alexandre Gama said today's clash would be a different story.

"We want to win the title as soon as possible,'' said the Brazilian coach.

"Nakhon Ratchasima caused trouble for us when we drew 2-2. But we will play at home and I am confident that we will win to move closer to winning the title again."

Buriram are chasing a clean sweep of three domestic titles as they are also in the FA Cup semi-finals.

In today's other match, Si Sa Ket host Army United.

In another development, Bangkok Glass fired Spanish coach Ricardo Rodriguez yesterday after a string of poor results.

Bangkok Glass, who lost 2-0 to Saraburi on Sunday, have won only once in their last five games and dropped to fifth place.

Anurak Srikerd will be in charge of the team in the last four games of the season.
