Satun United get severe punishment

Satun United were yesterday handed a three-year ban after their fans attacked the match officials following a game at the weekend.

The regional league (League Two, third tier) side, who also face a fine of 315,000 baht, said they will appeal the organising committee's ruling.

Hosts Satun lost 1-0 to Khon Kaen United in a regional league match on Sunday.

Hundreds of their fans believed the match officials, led by referee Pichit Thongchanmoon, were biased and beat them up after the final whistle.

Following yesterday's meeting, Vimol Kanjana, chairman of the regional league organising committee, announced that Satun would be suspended from playing in all competitions sanctioned by the Football Association of Thailand for three years.

The ban will begin next season and the club will be allowed to play their last three matches of this season, he said.

Satun are leaders of Group A in the Champions League stages with the top two teams from the group earning spots in League One (second tier).

However, Vimol said if Satun finished the season in the top two, the third-placed team would take their place in League One.

Satun chairman Samrit Liangprasit said the punishment was too harsh and that they would appeal the decision. If they lose their appeal, then they will take the matter to the Administrative Court, Samrit said.

In another case, BEC Tero Sasana will file a suit with the Administrative Court tomorrow, their manager Thanya Wongnark said.

BEC say Bangkok United used more than three foreign players in their 1-0 win at BEC in a Thai Premier League match on Nov 15.

The TPL disciplinary committee invalidated the result and awarded BEC a 3-0 win. However, its appeal committee reserved the decision and awarded three points back to the capital side.

With the ruling, BEC dropped to second from bottom in the TPL standings and are in danger of relegation with four matches remaining.

The last three teams go down to League One.
