Buriram move closer to title

Buriram United took another step towards retaining the Thai Premier League title after beating Nakhon Ratchasima 4-0 last night.

Buriram's Ko Seul-Ki, left, in action against Nakhon Ratchasima.

With the win, the Thunder Castle are 10 points clear of second-placed SCG Muang Thong United and need just one win in their last four games to keep the trophy at their I-Mobile Stadium.

Buriram are chasing a treble as they won the League Cup on Saturday and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Newcomers Nakhon Ratchasima had held Buriram to a 2-2 draw earlier in the season but the Thunder Castle had few problems in last night's match.

South Korean Ko Seul-Ki, who netted the winner against Si Sa Ket in the League Cup final, opened the scoring after 13 minutes.

The Swat Cats hit back and forced Buriram goalkeeper Siwarak Tedsungnern to make a couple of saves.

Brazilian striker Diogo Santo, who missed the League Cup final through suspension, came close to scoring on several occasions but failed to break the visitors' defence as the home side took a 1-0 lead at half-time.

Nakhon Ratchasima got off to a lively start in the second half but the match soon became one-sided.

Venezuela defender Andres Tunez made it 2-0 after 52 minutes, and Diogo scored twice in the final 10 minutes to complete the rout.

In yesterday's other match, League Cup runners-up Si Sa Ket drew 0-0 with Army United.
