SCG Muang Thong United returned to form a bit too late to pose any threat to arch-rivals Buriram United, who successfully wrapped up their defence of the Thai Premier League title with three games to spare on Saturday.

Muang Thong United hit four unanswered goals past hosts Ratchaburi yesterday to claim their first victory after three straight winless fixtures.

Muang Thong United improved to 67 points -- 10 behind champions Buriram and 13 in front of third-placed Chonburi. They have been guaranteed a runner-up finish in the league this season.

Cleiton Silva starred for the Kirins by smashing two goals in the 45th and 76th minutes. Mario Gjurovski had netted the first in the 39th and the third came at the 70-minute mark through Teerasil Dangda.

Army United went on a goal-scoring rampage as they whipped Chiang Rai 5-1 at home. Before kick-off, the sides were tied in the ninth place.

Anon Sangsanoi gave Chiang Rai a 1-0 edge but Mongkol Totsakrai sandwiched a 19th-minute strike by Totsawat Limwannasatien, finding the net in the 17th and 32nd minutes, to give Army a 3-1 advantage at half-time. Raphael Sena added the fourth on 74 minutes and Eksatha Thanyakam completed the rout in injury-time.

Chonburi found the net very early and very late in the match to hand bottom-placed TOT a 2-0 defeat yesterday. Juliano Mineiro gave Chonburi their first in the third and Leandro Assumpcao delivered the second two minutes from time.
