Shiffrin takes back-to-back Alpine Skiing triumphs

ASPEN (UNITED STATES) - Reigning world and Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin won Sunday's Alpine Skiing World Cup women's slalom race by 2.65 seconds, giving her back-to-back triumphs before home supporters.

In fact, only a botched finish to Friday's giant slalom prevented the 20-year-old American from a treble sweep at Aspen.

Two days after faltering three gates from victory and a day after winning the opening World Cup slalom race of the season, Shiffrin won again in a combined two-run time of 1min 40.18secs.

Sweden's Frida Hansdotter was second in 1:42.83 with Czech Sarka Strachova third in 1:43.08.

Shiffrin, who was second in the season-opening giant slalom in Austria, opened her quest for a fourth consecutive World Cup slalom crown by winning Saturday in 1:39.81.

On Friday, Shiffrin led after the opening giant slalom run and was ahead in the final run before a late stumble handed Swiss Lara Gut the win.

Shiffrin stretched her overall World Cup points lead with the victory as the women's circuit heads for Canada's Lake Louise next weekend.
