Freund goes top with Lillehammer ski jumping win

LILLEHAMMER (NORWAY) - Germany's Severin Freund, holder of the World Cup crystal globe, got his first win of the season in Saturday's ski jumping event in Lillehammer which was reduced to one jump because of strong winds.

The double world champion scored 129.7 points to finish slightly ahead of Norway's Kenneth Gangnes (129.6) for his 19th success to take the overall World Cup lead.

Norway's Andreas Stjernen was third (127.8) as Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer, who has 53 wins to his name, and double Olympic champion Kamil Stoch of Poland, struggled in 14th and 15th respectively.

A second event is scheduled for Sunday.
