BEC expect to learn their fate next week

The Administrative Court yesterday rejected a request by BEC Tero Sasana for it to consider the club's appeal as an urgent case.

Buriram striker Diogo Luis Santo, left, in action against BEC Tero.

BEC were relegated from the Thai Premier League on Sunday but could retain their status in the top flight if the court rules in favour of them.

Last month, BEC filed an appeal with the Administrative Court after a league match in which they lost 1-0 to Bangkok United.

BEC complained to the TPL that their rivals used more than the permitted number of foreign players and the league awarded the Fire Dragons a 3-0 victory.

However, a TPL appeal panel later overturned the decision and the original result stood.

BEC then brought the matter to the Administrative Court and if they win the case they would remain in the TPL at the expense of Saraburi who finished the season just above BEC.

"The court will treat the case as a normal one,'' BEC manager Thanya Wongnark said yesterday.

He expected the court to make a ruling next week before the TPL issues the fixtures for next season on Dec 29.

Thanya said the club also had asked Fifa to look into the matter.

TPL chairman Ong-art Korsinka said yesterday from next season clubs will be prohibited from filing lawsuits with Thai courts as this could face sanctions by Fifa.

Clubs can only file an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), he said.

Port land Cunha

Port, who were relegated from the TPL on Sunday, have signed striker Thiago Cunha from Chonburi.

Port CEO Nualphan Lamsam posted a photo of her and Cunha on Instagram.

"Don't have to say much. Welcome @thiagocunha37" she wrote.

Cunha, 30, scored 74 goals in 99 matches in all competitions for Chonburi. He will reunite with Masahiro Wada, his former boss at Chonburi who is now Port coach.

The Brazilian-born player has played for Timor Leste.

Diogo wins two awards

TPL champions Buriram United striker Diogo Luis Santo won two major titles at the award ceremony on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian forward, who scored 33 league goals in the 2015 season, won the most valuable player and top scorer awards.

He received a car and a pick-up truck for winning the awards from the TPL's title sponsor, Toyota.

Buriram's Alexandre Gama was named the best coach, while Army United received the fair play award.
