Paul Ricard circuit stages tyre tests

PARIS - Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen took part in tyre tests at the Paul Ricard circuit on Monday as Formula One drivers returned to the former home of the French Grand Prix for the first time since 2008.

Formula One driver Kimi Raikkonen steers his Ferrari during a practice session with rain tyres on January 25, 2016 at the Paul Ricard racetrack in Le Castellet

In wet conditions Raikkonen was joined by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo and McLaren test driver Stoffel Vandoorne.

"It was a normal day of testing," said 2007 world champion Raikkonen.

Raikkonen's teammate Sebastian Vettel is due to take the wheel on Tuesday with Daniil Kyvat taking charge of the Red Bull.

The Paul Ricard circuit at Le Castellet near Marseille staged the French Grand Prix from 1971 to 1990.

Two full pre-season testing sessions take place in Barcelona on Feb 22-25 and March 1-4 ahead of the opening race in Melbourne on March 20.
