Knockout, Buitrago clash for vacant crown on Feb 4

Knockout CP Freshmart will fight Carlos Buitrago of Nicaragua for the vacant WBA minimumweight title in Chon Buri on Feb 4.

Knockout CP Freshmart.

The World Boxing Association has given the Thai, who is the top-ranked contender in the 105-pound division and also the interim champion, the green light to take on Buitrago for the title vacated by Hekkie Budler.

South Africa's Budler has recently been promoted to be the super champion in the same division.

Knockout's manager Piyarat Wachirarattanawong said his boxer is looking forward to the fight that could deliver the first WBA belt for his camp.

"We have had interim WBA champions and now we hope to get a real champion," Piyarat said.

"We have a good chance and I have confidence in Knockout's ability."

It is going to be a rematch between the two after Knockout won a close fight to defend his interim title in Buri Ram in October 2014.

The 25-year-old Knockout has stopped opponents six times in his unbeaten 11-fight professional career.

In his last fight, he scored a fourth-round knockout over Alexis Diaz of Venezuela in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Buitrago, who is a year younger than his Thai opponent, has a record of 28-1-1 (16 KOs) with his only loss coming against Knockout.

Currently, Thailand has three world champions in Wanheng Menayothin (WBC minimumweight), Amnat Ruenroeng (IBF flyweight) and Pungluang Sor Singyu (WBO bantamweight).

Pungluang is scheduled to defend his crown against Jetro Pabustan of the Philippines in Nakhon Ratchasima on Feb 12.
