ROUBAIX (FRANCE) - Mathew Hayman made light of his 37 years to win the prestigious Paris-Roubaix one-day classic on Sunday.
Australia's Mathew Hayman (R) won the 114th Paris-Roubaix one-day classic on April 10, 2016
The Australian edged out Belgian legend Tom Boonen in a five-man sprint to deny the Etixx leader a record fifth title at the 'Hell of the North'.
"Just pure disbelief, I can't believe it," said a stunned Hayman, the second Aussie to win the race after Stuart O'Grady in 2007.
"I broke my arm five weeks ago and missed all the racing. I raced a race in Spain last week.
"This is my favourite race, it's a race I dream of every year. This year I didn't even dare to dream."
Britain's Ian Stannard finished third while the two pre-race favourites, world champion Peter Sagan and Fabian Cancellara, were both caught out by crashes and finished well back.
