Third-roundnightmarefor Thai duo

Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Thongchai Jaidee, the two Thai golfers participating in the 80th Masters, had a day to forget as they returned soaring scores in the third round on Saturday.

Kiradech, ranked No.37 in the world, posted a five-over 77 and blamed it all on his poor putting.

Veteran Thongchai, who lies in 41st position in the world rankings, fared even worse on the third day of the first major of the year by carding a nine-over 81.

The 26-year-old Kiradech, who shared eighth place after two rounds, had two birdies against five bogeys and a final-hole double bogey at the par-72 Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday and dropped to joint 23rd on 221. He was now eight strokes behind leader Jordan Spieth.

Kiradech, taking part in his first Masters, admitted that things only got tougher as the event progressed, but added: "Taking the course condition and weather into account, I am OK with my score today. My driver and iron are still OK, but [my] putter is still poor."

The former Asian Tour No.1 added that the greens were getting faster with the passage of every day and he was still having problems with controlling speed.

"With pin position being tough as well, I struggled a lot today. To make things worse, the wind became stronger. I three-putted three holes and made some mistakes. I am a bit disappointed with that part."

Kiradech, who has three European Tour titles under his belt, tweeted: "I will keep trying and hopefully, I will finish strong tomorrow."

Thongchai failed to card a single birdie in the third round which was punctuated by seven bogeys and a double bogey final hole. The 46-year-old was tied for 53rd place on 229.

Playing in his fifth Masters, Thongchai had hoping to better his best result of joint 37th in 2014, but it seems now he will have to wait at least another year to achieve that.
