PSG in tactical gamble, Toure benched by City

MANCHESTER (UNITED KINGDOM) - Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc sprang a major tactical surprise by deploying an untested 3-4-1-2 formation for Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg at Manchester City.

Missing David Luiz and Blaise Matuidi through suspension and Marco Verratti through injury, Blanc aligned Serge Aurier, Thiago Silva and Marquinhos in a new-look back three.

Gregory van der Wiel and Maxwell were named as wing-backs, either side of central midfielders Thiago Motta and Adrien Rabiot, with Angel di Maria supporting strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini picked the same team that he had fielded in last week's first leg in Paris, which ended 2-2, so Yaya Toure started on the bench despite having recovered from a knee problem.

Toure's absence meant that Jesus Navas held onto his place on the right flank, with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne completing the attacking midfield band behind lone striker Sergio Aguero.

With captain Vincent Kompany injured, Eliaquim Mangala partnered Nicolas Otamendi at centre-back.

City are bidding to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time, while French champions PSG graced the last four once, in 1995.
