Johnston claims maiden EPGA win at Valderrama

SAN ROQUE (SPAIN) - England's Andrew Johnston clinched his first victory on the European Tour at the Spanish Open with a one-under par 70 on Sunday to win by one shot from Dutchman Joost Luiten.

Andrew Johnston of England, in action on May 21, 2015, clinched his first victory on the European Tour at the Spanish Open

Sergio Garcia, whose foundation hosted the event at the Real Club de Valderrama, was four-under par for his final round to finish third two shots back.

Johnston's one-over score for the tournament is the first over-par score to win a European Tour event outside the majors since 1996.

"I came off the course and I just started crying with the emotion of it. It's just very surreal and I don't think it will hit me for a few days," said 27-year-old Johnston.

"It is what you dream of to have your name on a trophy alongside so many special names like Seve (Ballesteros), (Nick) Faldo and (Bernhard) Langer.

"You see them winning these tournaments, and the history of it and all these names, so to put mine on there feels pretty ridiculous really."
