Thailand remain undefeated in Uber Cup

Kunshan: Thailand beat Indonesia 3-2 in their final Group C game of the Uber Cup in China yesterday.

With the win, the Thai women topped the group and maintained their perfect record in the tournament.

Led by world No.2 Ratchanok Intanon, the Thais had beaten Hong Kong and Bulgaria.

Both Thailand and Indonesia had already qualified for the quarter-finals and yesterday's meeting was to determine group winners.

Ratchanok comfortably defeated Indonesia's Maria Febe Kusumastuti 21-14, 21-14 to give Thailand a 1-0 lead.

Della Destiara Haris and Rosyita Eka Putri Sari made it 1-1 with a 21-12, 21-14 win over Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai.

Busanan Ongbumrungphan finished off Hana Ramadhini 21-8, 21-11 to put Thailand in front again.

Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai then sealed the tie for Thailand after they beat Anggia Shitta Awanda and Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah 14-21, 21-17, 24-22.

In the meaningless rubber, Nitchaon Jindapol lost to Gregoria Mariska 21-13, 14-21, 20-22.

In the Thomas Cup, Lee Chong Wei's Malaysian squad survived a nail-biting showdown with Asian rivals South Korea.

The world No.3 led the charge as Malaysia edged out South Korea 3-2 to finish as the top team from their group ahead of the quarter-finals.

The day did not start off promisingly for the Koreans with Lee pushing past ninth ranked Son Wan-Ho in straight sets.

The Koreans were able to rally with doubles squads Lee Yong-Dae and Yoo Yeon-Seong, and Kim Gi-Jung and Kim Sa-Rang, prevailing in back-to-back wins.

But the Malaysians won the day with Chong Wei Feng besting South Korea's Jeon Hyeok-Jin 21-16, 21-16.

Meanwhile, Chinese legend Lin Dan vowed to find his "rhythm" after scrambling to salvage a three-game win over an unknown French opponent.

Lin described his Monday night opening match as "tough", after dropping the first game to France's Lucas Corvee before winning 20-22, 21-14, 21-8.

"I didn't expect to win this match in such a tough way," said Lin. "But it doesn't mean that I played badly, this match will help me to get fit and find my rhythm."
