The Thai volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat by the host Japan in the women’s qualifying event for the Rio Games on Wednesday.
Thailand and Japan played a thrilling five-set match which ended with a loss for the Thais at 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 13-15.
Thailand stay in sixth place in the eight-team contest with four points from four matches. They have a one-day break before taking on Kazakhstan on Friday.
The tournament offers four Olympic seats to the top-three finishers and the best-ranked Asian team. If an Asian team is ranked among the top three, then the next ranked Asian side will qualify.
