Bangkok United smash six past Si Sa Ket

Bangkok United thumped Si Sa Ket by a tennis score yesterday but their 6-1 romp wasn't enough to help them get closer to the Thai League leaders SCG Muang Thong United.

Muang Thong's Tristan Do is tackled by Sukhothai's Wichitchai Chuaisrinuan.

Brazilian striker Clieton Silva netted the clincher a few moments before the final whistle to give Muang Thong United a 2-1 home win against Sukhothai on Saturday night.

Muang Thong lead the standings with 33 points while Bangkok United continue to lag behind them by two points.

While Muang Thong United were dominant throughout the match, both of their goals came in the second half.

Adisak Kraisorn set up Cleiton to shoot home from a close range and put the Kirins ahead but the home fans were silenced 15 minutes from time when Sukhothai netted the equaliser.

John Baggio crossed the ball as Diouf Bireme charged in from behind the Muang Thong defence's wall and his angular missile left goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan stranded in the wrong spot.

The Kirins were relentless in their attacks but couldn't fire the ball past Sukhothai goalkeeper Sarawut Konglarp until the last minute of injury-time when Cleiton headed in a Sarach Yooyen free-kick.

Jaycee Okwunwanne and Dragan Boskovic scored two goals each and Mario Durovski and Leandro Martins contributed one apiece to the Bangkok United tally yesterday.

Durosinmi Adefolarin scored the only goal for Si Sa Ket in the 67th minute.

Chonburi, who had finished fourth last year, suffered another setback away at Navy-Sattahip stadium, where they were sunk 3-2 by Navy.

Kroekrit Taweekarn gave Chonburi the lead in the 35th before Andre Luis tied the score for the hosts in the first minute after the break.

Addison de Oliveira converted a penalty in the 58th minute to make it 2-1 for Navy but the Sharks drew level in the 66th minute when Rodrigo Vergilio found the net.

Anggello Machuca scored the winning goal for Navy seven minutes later to ensure a three-point haul for his team.

Meanwhile at Ratchaburi stadium, the hosts picked three points after trouncing Pattaya United 6-0. The hero of Ratchaburi's overwhelming triumph yesterday was their prolific forward Heberty Fernandes who scored a brilliant hat-trick.
