Thailand and Vietnam are considering introducing a bus service to offer the public more transport connections between the two countries.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc agreed on a proposal to consider a bus route via Laos in talks on Friday with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, the Vietnam News said on Saturday.

They also discussed the possibility of a coastal transport route that would link Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, it added.

Details of the planned bus and boat services will be discussed later by officials of the two countries.

The state-owned Transport Co currently provides bus service from Thailand to Laos and Cambodia, including their capitals Vientiane and Phnom Penh. It hopes to expand its international routes further in line with the government's policy to make the country a transport hub.

The Vietnamese prime minister also pledged support for Thai businesses and encouraged investors to explore various sectors including oil and gas, electricty, industrial zones, textiles, food production and tourism.

Thailand and Vietnam agreed in April last year on a plan to almost double their trade to $20 billion by 2020 from $12 billion in 2014.

Mr Don also held talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on Friday during his three-day visit that ends on Saturday.
