BTS snag draws grumbling from commuters

A technical problem caused a delay of about 30 minutes of Bangkok's skytrain service between Krung Thonburi and Saphan Taksin stations on Thursday morning left a large number of commuters stranded and drew numerous complaints, reports said.

Staff at the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) posted on Facebook and tweeted that there was a technical problem that would cause a 30-minute delay from 8.17am and apologised for the inconvenience.

The system returned to normal at 9.09am.

The problem drew a large number of complaints on BTS's Facebook page as commuters grumbled about the delay.

A commuter wrote: "The system broke down at 8am but BTS announced the delay at 8.24am. Too slow to act. I wonder why a company of this size does not have proper crisis management. The company's manual operational risk management should be thrown away."

"It's over 30 minutes.  A campaign has been launched for people to take public transportation, but the system management is poor. How would you explain to the people?  Two times already this month. Who would take the responsibility? Some children missed their exams. Workers were late to office," wrote another.
