Flooding in the South has caused the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to cut short its train services to Nakhon Si Thammarat and Trang provinces this weekend.
SRT governor Wuthichart Kalyanamitra said on Saturday that rapid and express trains from Bangkok to the two southern provinces must stop at the Thung Song station as heavy rains and flooding compromised safety on the rest of the routes.
The measure took effect on Saturday and Sunday as heavy rain and flooding were likely to continue throughout the weekend, he said.
The limited services affect the Bangkok-Kantang-Bangkok express trains Nos. 83/84, Bangkok-Kantang-Bangkok rapid trains 167/168, Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat-Bangkok express trains 85/86, and Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat-Bangkok rapid trains 173/174.
From the Thung Song station, the SRT would arrange to transport travellers by road to their destinations, Mr Wuthichart said.
Southernmost trains to the Sungai Kolok station in Narathiwat and Padang Besar in Songkhla province continued to operate normally as the tracks in those areas were not flooded, the SRT governor said.
