Driver killed when truck hits oil train

NAKHON SAWAN -- The driver of a trailer truck was killed when his vehicle ran into an oil tanker train that was passing through a railway crossing in Takhli district on Monday morning, police said.

Pol Maj Nitipoj Chan-akarapong, a duty officer at Takhli, said the accident occurred about 1.30am at a railway crossing near Moo 2 village in tambon Nong Pho.

Prachin Khamprakob, 47, an employee of Namtan Kaset Thai Ltd, a sugar company, was driving the truck out of the factory, alongside the rail track. The vehicle ran through a crossing barrier and rammed into the side of the moving train.

The trailer truck overturned and was wrecked. Prachin was killed.

The second carriage of the train derailed. The tank ruptured and the oil flowed out.

The other carriages were pulled back to Nong Pho railway station after the accident, to clear the track.  

Police were investigating.
